Meet the Founder

Taylor West, Esq., SHRM-SCP

Taylor West is a licensed attorney and human resources consultant who partners with organizations to develop and deliver enterprise-wide human capital strategy and optimize labor and employment law compliance to create workplaces where people feel safe, valued, and empowered to deliver their best outcomes. As a people leader and certified change practitioner, she believes that organizational culture is not separate from organizational performance—it is foundational to it—and organizations deliver their best outcomes when their people are positioned to thrive.

Before founding Tru People Consulting, Taylor dedicated 15 years of public service to the nonprofit, public school, and state and local government sectors, during which she held progressively responsible leadership roles in compliance, labor and employee relations, and human resources management. She began her legal career investigating charges of employment discrimination with the Delaware Department of Labor, Office of Anti-Discrimination, in partnership with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. That experience is foundational to how she represents employers in these matters and leads strategic efforts to strengthen organizational culture, competency, and compliance to mitigate future risk and foster a positive, productive work environment.

She proudly served her hometown of Wilmington, DE, for over seven years as an Assistant City Solicitor and later as the Deputy Director of Human Resources. In both roles, she served as an advisor to executive leadership and management on complex labor and employee relations, people-related risk and compliance, and organizational management best practices. As the Deputy Director of Human Resources, she led enterprise-wide people strategy, HR operations, organizational design, workforce planning, and change management. She provided leadership over all functional areas of the human resources department and directly managed the Compliance Division responsible for ADA, PWFA, and religious accommodations; FMLA; HR policy development and governance; workplace investigations; labor and employee relations; and collective bargaining. She also directly managed the Employee Services Division responsible for talent acquisition and management, performance management, learning and development, and employee engagement.

Taylor attended Widener University Delaware Law School, where she graduated with a pro bono distinction for providing pro bono legal services to individuals of limited means through the Delaware Civil Clinic and the Delaware Office of Defense Services. She is a proud alumna of Xavier University of Louisiana, where she earned a B.S. in Biology.
